Activities and sightseeing in and around Verona

The Roman amphitheatre, the Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore and of course the famous balcony from Romeo & Juliet – Verona is a must-see (not only) for culture enthusiasts! Just a few kilometres south of the city you’ll find the AL-KO VT Customer Centre, so you can easily reach Verona’s city centre from the workshop by car, taxi or public transport. The direct bus connection (line 52) to the city centre of Verona takes just under 35 minutes.

Sights in the city of Verona

The city, located in the Veneto region and home to almost 255,000 inhabitants, is full of history, culture and romance. Verona's old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The following sights should certainly feature on your sightseeing tour:

    • Arena di Verona
    • Casa di Giulietta (Juliet's House)
    • Piazza delle Erbe
    • Ponte Pietra
    • Castelvecchio Fortress
    • Scaliger Tombs
    • Basilica di San Zeno Maggiore

The Roman amphitheatre Arena di Verona in the historic city centre is renowned for world-famous opera performances. It is well worth a visit, just like one of the most famous places of pilgrimage for lovers: Juliet's House with its famous balcony from Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. The lively Piazza delle Erbe is surrounded by historic buildings, cafés and various markets. The picturesque Ponte Pietra, built in Roman style, also provides a breathtaking view of the River Adige.

The medieval Castelvecchio Fortress and its impressive art collections are a must-see for art lovers (and not just them). The Scaliger Tombs are among the world's most outstanding Gothic monuments and a historic symbol of Verona's noble past. The San Zeno Maggiore Abbey church is considered a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture and should be included in every tour of Verona.

Essential for any visit to Verona: savour the atmosphere of the city in one of its many cafés, trattorias, and restaurants over a glass of wine, espresso and authentic Italian cuisine!

The nearby area including Lake Garda

It’s only about a 30-minute drive from Castel d’Azzano to the southern shore of Lake Garda (also known as the Veronese Lake), one of Italy’s largest and most spectacular lakes. It is famous for its crystal-clear waters, charming towns and beautiful scenery. Sirmione on the southern shore is well known for its medieval Scaliger Castle, thermal springs and picturesque old town. Bardolino is famous for its vineyards, its pretty harbour and lakeside restaurants. The town of Garda, on the eastern shore, offers a mix of history, nature and fantastic panoramic views from Rocca di Garda.

Pitches and campsites near the Customer Centre

The Customer Centre in Verona currently does not offer its own pitch for campers with supply and disposal facilities – however, there is an open space on a quiet street in front of the building where you can park free of charge.

The following sites in the immediate vicinity are recommended:

    Camping Verona Village

Via Forte Tomba 44, 37135 Verona, Italy

This modern campsite, which is open 365 days a year, is barely five kilometres from Verona’s city centre and only a few minutes’ drive from Castel d’Azzano. It features 150 pitches for caravans and motorhomes, each with 50 square metres, as well as water and electricity connections. You can also rent a modern mobile home. Modern sanitary facilities with showers, washing machines and tumble dryers, barbecue area, nursery, dog wash station, charging point for electric vehicles, and more – this campsite leaves (almost) nothing to be desired. In addition, there is a bus stop right in front of the entrance, which gives you direct access by public transport to the historic centre of Verona in about 15 minutes.

    Verona City Camping

Via Castel San Pietro 2, 37129 Verona, Italy

Set within a natural oasis of native vegetation, yet very close to the city centre: Verona City Camping’s pitches are located just behind the ancient city walls, on a hill overlooking the city and Monte Baldo. There are sanitary and laundry facilities available. The site also offers glamping accommodation in StarsBOX tents – where you can open the roof and gaze at the starlit sky over the city.

We wish you a pleasant stay at the AL-KO VT Centre Verona and a wonderful time in Bella Italia!
